Julia Harding's Tasting notes

2019 Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru - Climats d'Or :   17

Cask sample. Mid crimson. Rich in peppery dark-red fruit and lifted with a gentle floral note. Open and fresh. On the palate, much firmer than the straight Morey but the tannins are still very fine indeed. Succulent and refined. On the delicate side but really persistent. (JH)

2019 Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru "Les Chaffots" :    17

Cask sample. Mid crimson. Lifted wild-cherry nose, even cranberry and a floral note like peony. Super-fine, nicely dry tannins. A light touch here with no sign of oak except perhaps in the tannins. Otherwise is it all fruit purity. So moreish. (JH)

2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Sentiers" :    17

Cask sample. Mid crimson. Darker-fruited and more peppery than the Morey premiers crus but still fragrant with the merest hint of roses. Finely dry tannins, succulent, mouth-watering and persistent. Elegant and beautifully balanced. (JH)

2019 Chambolle-Musigny "Les Argillières" :    16.5

Cask sample. Light to mid crimson. Open and scented with red fruits. Come hither. Mouth-watering bitter-cherry freshness. Light bodied, fine boned and absolutely delicious. Not for those who want mass, or obvious oak. Scented from start to finish. And perhaps not for the longer term. (JH)

2019 Gevrey-Chambertin "Les Seuvrées" Vieilles Vignes :    17

Cask sample. Mid crimson. Creamy and open with red cherry. Utterly inviting in its aromatic fruit purity. On the palate, equally pure, cherry and cherry kernel (a little bit nutty) and again those deliciously paper-fine tannins. Really lovely wine. (JH)

2019 Morey Saint Denis :   16

Cask sample. Deepish crimson. Ripe but fresh cherry fruit. So pure on the nose. That lovely Morey crossroads between fruit and a touch floral. The tannins are paper-fine, like layers of tissue paper - is this the effect of the ceramic vessels Magnien used to age part of his wines? Elegant, fresh, persistent. (JH)

2019 Fixin :  16

Cask sample. Deepish cherry red. Sweet-fruited and inviting. Lively, fresh, straightforward. Focus on the fruit, the tannins definite and smoothed. (JH)
