LA BOUTEILLE DE LA SEMAINE

Red Burgundy - 2018 - Frédéric Magnien
By Bernard Burtschy

Frédéric Magnien is one of the most talented producers in Burgundy. As soon as he took over the family estate in 2008, he immediately converted all the vineyards to organic farming - from the most prestigious plots to the more modest ones.

Two years later, he transitioned to biodynamic viticulture, an even more demanding practice followed by only 1% of producers. Having once used a significant amount of new oak and sometimes pushed boundaries, he has now wisely turned to amphorae - he owns more than 230 of them!

A good way to assess an estate is always by tasting its entry-level wine. This "simple" Bourgogne is made from parcels located in the prestigious Côte de Nuits and may soon qualify for the new Bourgogne-Côte-d'Or appellation. It also includes grapes from declassified, better-known crus. Made entirely from Pinot Noir, the wine is elegant and refined.

With a quick vinification, this Bourgogne emphasises fruit and freshness. Enjoy its immediate charm - for once, there's no need to wait years to open it.

Never tasted wine aged in amphorae? Now's the time! And to top it off, it's certified organic.

Serve it with a simple veal sauté.
