2009 Gevrey-Chambertin, 1er Cru Perrière,

No triage was needed in 2009 because as Fred said, it was all “sorted in the vineyard”! He made a brilliant range of distinguished, truly exciting Pinot Noirs in 2009 and Perrière is no exception. The tannins are proud at this early stage, but they are not at all aggressive. There is pronounced berry fruit character here and huge length, too. Of the range this is one of the more precocious cuvées and so you could conceivably attack it early (unlike Fred’s Gevrey 1er cru Cazetiers, for example), because of its open fruit, but it will age gracefully for a decade or more, too. A beautiful and sensual wine, there is more texture and charm in this wine than you might ordinarily associate with a Gevrey and this is a mark of Fred's impeccable fruit handing.
